The Vision: Small Town Life Inside a Major City

The neighbourhood was based on the new urbanist movement, with original concepts crafted by Andreas Duany, the same architect behind Seaside, Florida, the filming location of The Truman Show. The most iconic feature of McKenzie Towne is undoubtedly High Street. Centred around the famous clock tower, this open-air commercial hub is where the community's small-town vision truly comes to life. Location and Getting Around

McKenzie Towne is bordered on the west by Deerfoot Trail, on the south by Stoney Trail, on the east by 52nd Street SE, and to the north by the South Trail regional commercial centre along 130 Avenue SE. That road access is exceptional, Deerfoot Trail provides fast north-south movement across the city, while Stoney Trail connects east to west across Calgary's ring road. Highway 22X (Marquis of Lorne Trail) links residents west toward Okotoks and the foothills.

For transit users, the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) lines have stops nearby, offering faster and more frequent service. The planned Green Line LRT will have a station near the community, promising even better transit connectivity in the future. A Park and Ride facility adjacent to High Street provides an additional option for commuters heading downtown.

Blue Devil Golf Course in nearby Chaparral Valley is a local favorite, a challenging and scenic layout. Right alongside it, Lil Devil offers a well-designed par 3 course. Look to this course to be open early and late season.
