There are communities in Calgary, and then there is Bowness. The distinction matters. Bowness isn't just a neighbourhood, it's a former town with its own history, its own identity, and its own residents who call themselves not Calgarians, but Bownesians. That pride isn't manufactured. It's been earned over more than a century of independent community life, and it survived amalgamation into the City of Calgary in 1964 with its character remarkably intact. If you haven't spent time in Bowness, you haven't fully understood what Calgary's west end has to offer.
The community is well-served by transit, with bus routes connecting to the C-Train network, and Stoney Trail providing quick access west to the mountains or north and south across the city for drivers.
